Parameter guide

What the parameters mean and how to choose the right values.

The shank length determines how thick a material can be riveted. For proper setting, choose a shank 2–3 mm longer than the total material thickness – the joint will be strong, even, and free from head deformation.

The shank diameter defines the thickness of the rivet part that passes through the material. Choose it so that the hole in the leather or webbing is slightly smaller than the shank diameter, so the rivet sits tight after riveting.

Head diameter defines the size of the visible part of the saddler’s rivet and affects both appearance and load capacity along the edge. For soft or perforated materials and tensioned areas, a larger head provides better pressure distribution.

How many double cap rivets come in one pack. Most finishes are sold in packs of 1000, some in packs of 10, so compare prices per rivet rather than per pack.

Frequently asked questions

The most common questions – materials, selection and practical tips.

The total thickness of the layers you're joining decides. Add the shank overhang needed for spreading: the shank should be 2–3 mm longer than the material thickness.

The shank length is listed for every rivet in the dimensions table as dimension B — the full range is in the Rivets & Screws category.

The hole diameter differs by material. For leather, choose a punch slightly smaller than the shank diameter — leather is elastic and grips the shank tightly. For waterproof webbing, choose a punch that matches the shank exactly; the webbing doesn't stretch, so the shank has to pass through without being forced.

A shank that's too long shows up as a rivet that deforms while spreading, or caps that don't line up.
