Trigger Snaps – what to choose?

They feature a unique opening mechanism - a small lever that opens the latch against spring pressure. When released, the snap closes automatically, securely and in a flash. Thanks to their convenient design and quick opening mechanism, Trigger Snaps are popular in a wide range of applications, from leashes, handbags and key rings to horse halters.

Parameter guide

Trigger Snaps: what the parameters mean and how to choose the right values.

The dimension of the whole piece, end to end. It tells you how much room the fitting takes on the finished item; whether it fits the webbing depends on the eye width. The whole piece is measured, not just its working part, so two pieces with the same eye width can differ in length.

Inner width of the snap hook eye – determines the maximum width of material you can thread through. Choose an eye the same width or slightly wider than your strap, rope or leather lace.

Gate opening indicates how wide the snap hook opens. It determines the maximum diameter of the ring or D-ring the hook can clip onto.

The clear inner diameter of the eye, that is the size of the opening something passes through. Rings are paired with a snap hook, webbing or chain by this figure: the mating part has to pass whole, not just its tip. The outer size of the piece is this diameter plus twice the material thickness.

Round: A universal shape – suitable for ropes, round laces and soft straps that easily conform to the eye shape.
Square: Better suited to flat and stiffer materials (waterproof webbing, leather belts) that would bunch or fold in a round eye.
Fixed (round or square): The eye is a solid part of the snap body and does not swivel, so the snap stays in line with the strap.
