Parameter guide
What the parameters of single Cap Rivets mean and how to choose the right values.
The shank length determines how thick a material can be riveted. For proper setting, choose a shank about 2–3 mm longer than the total thickness of the joined material. This ensures a tight grip and a clean, even finish of the joint.
The shank diameter indicates the hole size required in the material for inserting the rivet. It affects both the joint strength and the appearance of riveting. The larger the shank, the stronger the joint.
Head diameter indicates the size of the visible part of the saddler’s rivet and affects not only the appearance but also the pressure distribution. For soft or multilayer materials or highly stressed areas, choose a larger head that resists pull-through more effectively.
The number of pieces in one selling unit. Small hardware is not sold singly but by the pack, so this figure tells you how many rivets or eyelets you get. Use it to compare prices between items as well, rather than the price per pack.

The total thickness of the layers you're joining decides — add to it the shank overhang needed for spreading:

Thinner materials — a shank 1–2 mm longer than the material thickness.

Thicker materials — a shank 2–3 mm longer.

The hole diameter differs by material. For leather, choose a punch slightly smaller than the shank diameter — leather is elastic and grips the shank tightly. For waterproof webbing, choose a punch that matches the shank exactly; the webbing doesn't stretch, so the shank has to pass through without being forced.
A shank that's too long shows up as a rivet that deforms while spreading, or caps that don't line up.
