Waterproof Webbings – what to choose?

Waterproof webbing is a practical choice for makers of dog collars and leashes. A strong textile core with a PVC coating means it doesn’t fray, doesn’t soak up water or odours, and mud wipes off with a damp cloth. We stock it in widths from 10 to 50 mm and in more than 40 colours. Punch holes in it with punches for waterproof webbing.

Parameter guide

What the parameters mean and how to choose the right values.

The width of the strap itself. It is the main figure hardware is chosen by: a buckle, keeper or snap hook has to take this width; otherwise the strap puckers or will not pass through.

The thickness of the strap or webbing itself. It decides whether the material passes through the slot of the hardware and how well the item holds its shape: thicker material is stiffer and bends less easily; thinner material folds better but wears through sooner. Choose hardware by width; watch the thickness at the slot and when riveting.

The colour of the version. On hardware it is the colour of the finish, on everything else (webbing, rope, leather dyes, edge paint, textiles) the colour of the material itself. A shade in a photo and on a screen differs from the real thing, so when ordering more for a production run already under way, compare by the name of the shade, not by the picture.

A variant of the same item that differs in construction, shape or surface: for hardware, for example with or without a lock, straight or curved, or all-metal; for straps and webbing, smooth, braided, hair-on or with a reflective stripe. Variants usually share the dimensions and differ in handling or looks.

Frequently asked questions

The most common questions – materials, selection and practical tips.

Yes, prices are per metre. We sell webbing in whole rolls, but some webbing you can also order in a shorter length.

  • Polypropylene webbing (solid colour, rubber, woven, reflective): 50 m rolls, flexible webbing 25 or 30 m.

  • Waterproof webbing: 30 m rolls, Super Grip 15 m.

If a product shows a minimum order, that is the roll length and you order in whole rolls. If it shows no minimum order, you can also order a shorter length, for example to try it out. You pay more per metre than for a whole roll, and above the roll length you add whole rolls only.

You can try a sample of the webbing first. See Can I get a product sample? We can make a different colour or thickness to order. See Can you supply webbing in a different color or thickness?

No. Biothane is a registered trademark of the American company BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. and we don't sell their material. Our waterproof webbings are our own product.
