This metal suspender clip is used to make braces (suspenders) from elastic bands or leather straps. Thread the material through the clip's eye and secure it with stitching or a rivet. The finished braces are then attached to clothing by snapping the clip directly onto the waistband of the trousers.
Clip construction and function
- Attachment to fabric: The clip's jaws are fitted with a plastic insert. When the clip is closed, the insert keeps the metal edges away from the trouser fabric.
- Mechanism: The clip closes with a lever that, once folded down, applies constant pressure to the clamped fabric. The clip body combines parts made from steel sheet and zinc alloy.
Limitations and alternatives
The clip holds onto clothing solely through the mechanical pressure of its jaws. It is therefore suitable for everyday fashion and haberdashery accessories. Under strong dynamic loads, however, the clip can slip off the trouser waistband.
When making braces, you will also need a slider for smooth strap length adjustment.
