When you mount a low washer on thick vegetable-tanned leather, the thread often only catches for a few turns. The fastener then can't be tightened securely, or it works loose over time. The raised LOXX® washer is made for exactly these thicker materials. The taller profile gives the thread more room to catch properly, even through material 1 to 4 mm thick. That means you can skip the time-consuming skiving of the leather at the joint entirely.
Limits and correct washer installation
- The fixing teeth must fully bite into the leather: When tightening, press the washer down so the teeth embed completely into the material. Quick check: After tightening, try turning the entire fastener with your fingers. If it moves, the teeth haven't seated properly and the fastener will spin during use.
- Minimum thickness 1 mm: On thinner materials the washer may not seat correctly and the fastener can remain loose. For these cases, use the standard flat washer instead.
- Maximum thickness 4 mm: If the total layer thickness exceeds 4 mm, the thread won't reach the top part of the fastener and the joint won't close at all. In that case you'll need to pair the washer with a top part that has a specially extended thread.
Installation and accessories
⚠️ Note: The fastener consists of two parts (top/bottom part). Both parts must be purchased separately to complete the fastener.
- Punching the hole: Use a hole punch with a 10 mm diameter to create the opening – available individually as #3777-14, #KEM/LSHP100 or as part of a set #24690, #KEM/LSHP/14SET.
- Attaching and tightening: For occasional tightening, a small wrench #04492.05000 works well. For regular use, we recommend the large wrench #04500.00000.
