You are here: Pet Hardware Leatherwork Tools Other Tools Rivet Cutting Pliers Craftool
Trimming copper and brass rivets flush with the surface calls for a clean cut right at the material. Standard workshop nippers have bevels on both sides of the jaw, so they always leave a sharp burr behind — or you end up scratching the leather under pressure. Craftool saddler's pliers have jaws ground completely flat on one face. You can lay them flush against the leather and snip the rivet shank cleanly, without damaging the grain side of the material.
When joining multiple layers of heavy leather on belts, bags, or harnesses, you need a reliable grip. The solid forged steel alloy construction doesn't twist under pressure, and the length of the pliers gives you enough leverage to cut through thicker copper shanks without straining your wrist. The handle is coated in thermoplastic rubber that stays put even when your hands are dusty from a day at the bench.
The flat jaws are just as useful when repairing older bags or belts. Instead of prying out an old rivet or snap and risking a tear in the leather, you work around the rivet from the side, nibbling it down and cutting it right at the anchor point without damaging the surrounding material.
