Angelus Acrylic Finisher is a professional acrylic top coat designed to seal and protect dyed leather surfaces. This water-based finish dries into a continuous, highly flexible film that “locks in” the color and helps protect it from cracking, peeling, and everyday environmental wear.
The Matte version gives your piece a modern, deep-matte look with no unwanted glare—while keeping the material’s natural texture intact. It’s an essential step for professional restorations and custom work where a clean, understated finish is the goal.
Key features for makers:
- Color lock and protection: Effectively seals in Angelus pigments, helps prevent rub-off, and improves surface resistance to scratches and dirt.
- High elasticity: Designed to move with the material. It stays flexible even in bend-heavy areas (like sneakers) and won’t readily crack or flake.
- Water-resistant barrier: Once fully cured, it forms a non-permeable layer that helps protect leather from moisture and harsh weather.
Recommended application: Apply only after the final coat of dye has fully dried. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use so the matting agents mix evenly. Apply in thin, even layers with a sponge, soft cloth, brush, or spray gun. Before regular wear or heavy use, allow the finish to fully cure for at least 24 hours.

A specification can tell you plenty. The workbench tells you the rest, so that is where I test it.
The Matte version solves the opposite situation to Extra Gloss – no shine, no “wow effect”, just a flat, subdued surface. I reach for it on work or military-style pieces, where a glossy surface would only stand out where it shouldn't.
Shake the bottle well before every use. The matting agent settles at the bottom, and without mixing the first brush strokes come out shinier than the rest of the surface – an uneven finish that's hard to fix afterwards.
Apply in thin coats, the same as with the other Acrylic Finisher versions. A thicker coat on the matte version whitens more easily and gets a chalky look, so two thin coats beat one heavy one.
The same rule applies as with the glossy versions: let the finish cure for a full 24 hours. Only then is the leather surface truly resistant, and the matte look stays stable.
