The Craftool wooden strap cutter, featuring an engraved measuring scale, makes it easy to prepare long leather straps, belt blanks or bag handles. Instead of repeatedly measuring and cutting with a ruler, simply place the tool's side guide against a straight leather edge and pull it smoothly towards you.
Key Features and Specifications
- Cutting width up to 102 mm: Easily adjust the arm to any width from a narrow trim strip up to 102 mm. Once set, the tool maintains the same width consistently throughout the entire cut.
- Replaceable blades - no sharpening required: The cutter uses standard utility blades. If you notice the blade starting to drag or tear the leather instead of cutting cleanly, simply replace it with a new one. Replacement blades (pack of 5) are available under code #3081-00.
Tool Limitations and Workshop Tips
- A straight guide edge is essential: The tool does not straighten a crooked leather edge - it simply follows it. Always trim the first guide edge by hand using a metal ruler before cutting. This creates a reliable reference edge for the cutter to follow.
- Best suited for firm leather: The wooden strap cutter performs best on straight straps cut from firm leather. It is not suitable for soft lining, garment or upholstery leather, which tends to wrinkle ahead of the blade and pull away from the guide. For these flexible materials, use a rotary leather cutter.
- Not recommended for rigid synthetic webbing: The tool is also not ideal for stiff synthetic webbings. These materials create high resistance against the blade, which can cause it to deflect slightly and produce less accurate cuts.
