The Craftool aluminium strap cutter weighs 320 grams. Use it to cut long leather belts and straps with a pulling motion toward you. The aluminium arms stay firmly in place during cutting and won't splay open. The set strap width stays consistent even when cutting stiffer materials. A handy tool for making belts, collars, or horse harnesses.
Key features and specs
- Solid aluminium build: The aluminium body won't corrode. Compared to wooden cutters, the arms don't twist and hold their spacing more reliably.
- More durable stop: The metal stop holds up better against friction from the leather edge. It wears down more slowly than wood, which keeps play and inaccuracies in check.
- Inch-only scale: The arm has a stamped inch scale. For precise width settings in millimetres, we recommend using your own ruler.
- Replaceable blades: Once the blade stops cutting cleanly, simply swap it out. Replacement blades (pack of 5) are available under code #3085-02.
Tool limitations and practical tips
- A straight guide edge is a must: The tool won't straighten a crooked edge on its own. Trim the starting edge of the leather by hand against a metal ruler first.
- Best suited for firm leathers: The cutter handles stiff materials well, such as vegetable-tanned cowhide. It also manages thick belt-weight leathers as long as they hold their shape.
- Watch out with soft leather: Thin, supple hides tend to bunch and stretch in front of the blade. The cut wanders and the result won't be straight. For these softer materials, use a rotary leather cutter.
- Keep an eye on blade sharpness: A dull blade tends to drift off course. It takes more force and the cut curves. Rather than spending time stropping, just replace the blade when it starts to go.
