This Japanese, water-based compound is a specialist for quick and clean edge finishing: just apply with your finger, a spatula, or a cloth, smooth it out, and you’re done.
The result is a smooth, flexible, and naturally glossy edge that looks clean, without the need for wax, lacquer, or any complicated techniques.
It works well for products where the edge is a visible part of the design, like belts, collars, wallets, or bags. Thanks to its good adhesion, the compound strengthens the fibers at the edge, so the edge frays less.

A specification can tell you plenty. The workbench tells you the rest, so that is where I test it.
I tried Tokonole mostly out of curiosity. I wasn’t expecting miracles – I just wanted to see if it could really replace wax, lacquer, and all that endless “step-by-step routine” that always felt like a necessary evil when making collars and wallets. And you know what? It can. And with grace.
I’m not the only one – more and more leathercrafters and saddlers are using Tokonole these days, simply because it works. On smooth edges, it takes just a few seconds – a little Tokonole, a few strokes with a wooden burnisher, and the edge shines like it’s been varnished. But without the smell. Without the chemicals. Without the stress. You can even do it right at your kitchen table.
