Fiebing's Edge Kote is a time-tested, flexible water-based edge finish that gives your products a professional and clean appearance. In addition to edges, it is also ideal for coloring and sealing the flesh side of leather. Once dry, it creates a durable, water-resistant layer with a medium gloss that remains flexible and does not crack, even when bent.

Application
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use – never shake it, as this may create bubbles. Apply to the flesh side of the leather using a wool dauber. For precise edge finishing, we recommend using a brush or an edge dye pen #3437-00. Allow the product to dry completely and repeat the process in several coats until the surface is perfectly smooth.
Not suitable for suede or nubuck leather.

Craft isn't just about feel – it's about understanding the material and the process. If it works in my workshop, it'll work in yours.
Edge Kote is a great helper, but do not be misled – one coat is never enough on natural leather. Fresh leather is naturally “fuzzy,” and the first coat of dye will only lift and bind these fibers. If you want a mirror-like edge, you need patience and a layered approach.
My practical advice: Even though the manufacturer mentions using a wool dauber, I do not recommend it for edges – you risk staining the grain side of the product and leaving wool fibers in the finish. A pen applicator or an awl is a much better choice for edges. Wait until the first coat is completely dry, then lightly sand it to smooth the surface, and only then apply the next layer.
My tip for perfectionists: If you truly want a mirror-like edge, try sealing and burnishing it first with Eco-Flo Gum Tragacanth. The tragacanth will “seal” the edge and smooth down the fibers, creating a perfectly even base. Once the treated edge has dried, Edge Kote will not soak into the leather uncontrollably and will form a beautifully uniform film. It is an extra step, but the result looks like it came from a luxury boutique.
