Rhinestone Rivets – what to choose?

Rhinestone rivets come in two parts: a cut glass stone set in a brass cup. Use them as decoration on collars, leashes, harnesses, bags, belts or shoes. They will not carry load. On leashes and collars for medium and large dogs, keep them decorative and let other hardware hold the joint. Choose from round and square shapes in several sizes and colors. Set them with a hand press and match the setting tool to the rivet size.

Parameter guide

Rhinestone Rivets: what the parameters mean and how to choose the right values.

The shank length refers to the part of the rhinestone rivet that passes through the material. For reliable setting, choose a shank approximately 2–3 mm longer than the total material thickness.

The shank diameter refers to the thickness of the rhinestone rivet section that passes through the material. The right size ensures secure fixing.

Stone size refers to the diameter of the decorative rhinestone in the rivet head and determines the visual effect. A larger stone stands out more but requires enough surrounding space and a smooth surface to prevent snagging.

The number of pieces in one selling unit. Small hardware is not sold singly but by the pack, so this figure tells you how many rivets or eyelets you get. Use it to compare prices between items as well, rather than the price per pack.

The colour of the version. On webbing and rope it is the colour of the material, on hardware the colour of the finish. A shade on a photo and on a screen differs from the real thing, so when reordering into a series already under way, compare by the name of the shade, not by the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Rhinestone Rivets: most common questions – materials, selection and practical tips.

The total thickness of the layers you're joining decides — add to it the shank overhang needed for spreading:

  • Thinner materials — a shank 1–2 mm longer than the material thickness.

  • Thicker materials — a shank 2–3 mm longer.

The shank length is listed for every rivet in the dimensions table as dimension B — the full range is in the Rivets & Screws category.

The hole diameter differs by material. For leather, choose a punch slightly smaller than the shank diameter — leather is elastic and grips the shank tightly. For waterproof webbing, choose a punch that matches the shank exactly; the webbing doesn't stretch, so the shank has to pass through without being forced.

A shank that's too long shows up as a rivet that deforms while spreading, or caps that don't line up.
