You are here: Pet Hardware Leather Dyes & Glues Leather Finishes Eco-Flo Satin Shene – Protective Finish (Satin): 130 ml
Eco-Flo Satin Shene is a great choice for finishing leather goods when you want a natural look with a softer, more refined surface. It’s a water-based acrylic emulsion that dries into a light, velvety matte film. This thin layer helps lock in pigment and protects the grain side of the leather against everyday wear.
Thanks to its specific formula, Satin Shene is a go-to finish for finer leathercraft pieces like wallets, notebook covers, or decorative items. Unlike heavier topcoats, it keeps the leather feeling supple and avoids that artificial “plastic” look.
Recommended application: For the best look, apply in thin, even coats using a slightly damp sponge, a brush, or a spray gun. Satin Shene works well on natural as well as dyed leather. If you’re using heavily pigmented alcohol dyes, we recommend applying at least two thin coats for better fixation. Let the surface dry completely before adding the next layer.
Mix thoroughly before use. Not suitable for suede or brushed leathers. After use, tools can be easily cleaned with soap and water.
Original name: Eco-Flo Satin Shene
Caution: This product must not be exposed to freezing temperatures. Check suitable shipping conditions.
I tested Satin Shene mainly for its matte appearance, which many customers prefer. I wanted to see whether it could preserve a natural surface look while still reliably sealing the pigment.
It was easy to work with. The finish spreads evenly and does not create blotches or streaks. Once dry, the surface has a velvety matte look, without a plastic feel. However, with heavily pigmented alcohol-based dyes, even after two coats there was very slight rub-off under stronger abrasion.
Satin Shene creates a thinner protective layer than other acrylic finishes. For this reason, it is suitable where appearance is the priority and the item is not exposed to heavy mechanical stress or moisture – for example wallets, notebooks, or decorative pieces.
For more demanding conditions I would choose a stronger finish, but as a matte alternative, Satin Shene has its place. It looks natural and forms a gentler protective film than heavier acrylic finishes.
