What polypropylene with rubber is

Polypropylene webbing with woven-in rubber threads. The polypropylene fibres carry the load, and the rubber threads add friction, so the webbing grips better in the hand. The webbing itself does not stretch and does not absorb jerks.

Why we use it

For training leashes, long tracking lines and harness parts that are held in the hand. Compared with smooth webbing, the rubber gives a firmer grip, even when the webbing is wet.

When to choose it and when to look elsewhere

  • Hand-held leashes and tracking lines: where a secure grip matters more than a smooth feel.
  • Wet grass and rain: polypropylene absorbs very little water and dries quickly.

If the leash should stretch and absorb jerks, this webbing cannot do that; look for shock-absorbing webbing. For people with a known rubber allergy, choose webbing without rubber threads, such as polyester.

How it ages and how to care for it

The rubber ages first: sun and heat gradually harden it, and hardened threads can crack and grip less well. Store rolls wrapped, somewhere cool and dark, and do not leave finished leashes in the sun longer than necessary. After salt water or mud, rinse the webbing with fresh water and let it dry.

Good to know

Cotton webbing with rubber offers the same grip: it feels softer in the hand, but absorbs water and dries more slowly. Load capacity varies between individual webbings, so always check it on the specific product.
