Satin or subdued silver tone without reflections. More modern and restrained than a glossy surface. Minor scratches and fingerprints are less noticeable.

Handles normal everyday wear. At exposed points — where regular friction or contact with other metals occurs — traces of wear may appear over time.

Reliably protects the underlying material during typical outdoor use — rain, dew, occasional wetting. May not be sufficient for permanently wet environments.

The finish contains no nickel in any layer. A safe choice for allergy sufferers and for products intended for direct contact with sensitive skin.

How zinc plating is made
An electroplated layer of zinc on steel. Zinc is a "sacrificial" coating: it protects even small scratches by corroding more readily than the steel beneath it.
What it gives the product
A matte silver tone and solid protection for outdoor use. No nickel.
When to choose it and when not to
Work hardware, Swedish-style snap hooks, technical parts. It isn't decorative – for show pieces, choose nickel or chrome instead. In permanent damp a white bloom may appear (the zinc is doing its job) – it doesn't affect function.
How it ages
It gradually greys and dulls; its protective role continues afterwards too.
