How anodising is made
Aluminium is immersed in a bath and an electric current converts its surface into a hard oxide layer. It isn't a coating; it's a transformation of the metal itself, so it can't flake off.
What it gives the product
Hardness, excellent corrosion protection and a choice of colours from silver to black. No nickel.
When to choose it and when not to
Everything made from aluminium and its alloys: snap hooks, Cobra buckles, swivels. Anodising can't be applied to other metals; there, electroplating or PVD does the job instead.
How it ages
Colour and surface hold for years; extreme abrasion against rock can wear the layer through locally, but everyday use won't.
What it pairs with
Sport and outdoor products; black anodising with reflective webbing is a proven combination.
