How neo-chrome is made

PVD: in a vacuum chamber, a wafer-thin layer of titanium compounds is deposited onto the hardware. The rainbow shimmer comes from light refracting on the layer, not from any dye.

What it gives the product

A shimmer that shifts from silver through blue to purple depending on the viewing angle, an extremely hard surface, full waterproofing and no nickel.

When to choose it and when not to

Bold, eye-catching products. There's just one downside: price. It's the most technologically demanding finish we offer.

How it ages

PVD layers are among the hardest surfaces there are; the shimmer survives years of use.

What it pairs with

Black and dark blue webbing let the rainbow effect stand out; less is more here: just one iridescent element per product.

  • Look

    Iridescent

    Surface changes colour depending on the viewing angle, shifting between silver, gold, blue and purple. The changing colour makes the finish a visible part of the design.

  • Abrasion resistance

    High

    Designed for daily use with frequent contact against straps, snaps or other hard surfaces. Visible wear develops more slowly than in the lower resistance classes.

  • Corrosion protection

    Outdoor exposure

    Protects the underlying material during typical outdoor exposure to rain, dew and occasional wetting. It may not be sufficient for permanently wet environments.

  • Nickel

    Yes, in interlayer

    Nickel is present in an intermediate layer rather than at the surface. If the top layer wears through, nickel may become exposed and come into contact with skin.

Damp conditions Outdoor use Suitable for typical outdoor exposure to rain, mud, moisture and sweat. Follow any care requirements of the base material and the complete product.
Aging Wear at contact points At points of regular friction (typically the buckle edge, snap contact point or strap) the finish gradually wears through and the base material shows beneath.
Process PVD A thin metal or ceramic layer deposited in a vacuum. PVD can provide a hard surface and colour effects that depend on the deposited material and process settings.
