What PVC-coated polyester is

Woven polyester webbing sealed into a layer of plasticised PVC. The polyester core carries the load, the coating keeps water, mud and dirt on the surface.

Why we use it

Smooth, hexa, bark, super grip and reflective waterproof webbing and coated ropes, including imitation round leather cord, for collars, leashes, tracking lines and halters that get rinsed and wiped instead of washed. You will find the tensile strength for each tested width in the laboratory test report.

When to choose it and when to look elsewhere

  • Swimming dogs, mud, rain: the coating absorbs very little water and a wipe is enough.
  • Horses and working gear: halters and leads that only need a rinse.

Every punched hole interrupts the polyester core and weakens the webbing at that point. Use the smallest punch that will do and reinforce loaded holes with an eyelet. For a softer grip in the hand, choose cotton webbing with rubber; for the lowest price, polypropylene.

How it ages and how to care for it

Rinse it with water or wipe it with a damp cloth; for heavier dirt, use a mild soap. Keep repellents and solvents away from the coating. In a laboratory bend test, 20 mm samples did not crack even after four hours at −40 °C, but plasticised PVC does stiffen in frost. Over years in the sun, the coating slowly loses plasticiser, stiffens and dulls, and neon shades fade sooner than deep ones.

Good to know

On cut ends and in holes, the core stays exposed. If the item is going to be wet for long periods, seal them with edge paint. The Textile Testing Institute in Brno assessed a black sample of our webbing and found phthalates below 0.01% (certificate). The result applies to the tested sample.

  • Price

    Mid-range

A mid-range price class. Compare its specific durability, weight and finish with the less expensive alternatives before choosing.

  • Strength

    Medium

Suitable for everyday products exposed to moderate loads. Repeated strong pulling may deform the material, so check the strength of the complete product for demanding uses.

  • Water

    Seawater

Suitable for regular contact with seawater. Rinse the complete product after use if its other materials or components require it.

  • Weight

    Very light

The lowest weight class in this comparison. Useful for small products and accessories where every gram matters.

Allergy risk Low contact-reaction risk The material has a low risk of causing a contact reaction in normal use. Individual sensitivity varies, and the selected surface finish and other components also matter.
Aging Minor changes Over time slight dulling or minor surface changes may occur. This does not affect function, but is visible on closer inspection.
Maintenance No special care No special care is required. Rinse with water or wipe with a cloth when cleaning is needed.
