What marine bronze is

A copper-tin alloy developed for marine hardware. It withstands salt water and chemically aggressive environments – where ordinary metals gradually corrode, bronze just darkens slowly.

Why we use it for hardware

Kong snap hooks in marine bronze are the choice for leashes that are regularly used in water: water training, mushing by the sea, fishing. They also feature a solid body with a lock against accidental opening.

When to choose it and when to look elsewhere

  • Sea and salt water – along with 316 stainless steel, the only metals of ours that don't mind permanent salt exposure.
  • Demanding conditions – mud, rain, frost.

It is heavier and more expensive than ordinary metals – for city walks, brass or 304 stainless steel is enough.

How it ages and how to care for it

It patinas to a darker tone, and that's it – no maintenance needed.

Good to know

Bronze is the oldest alloy humanity makes – it gave its name to the entire Bronze Age. Ship propellers are still cast from it today.
