How palladium plating is made

An electroplated layer of palladium: a precious metal from the platinum group. No nickel.

What it gives the product

A cool silver tone, high stability and excellent corrosion resistance.

When to choose it and when not to

Pricier pieces (such as the Fidlock mini buckle) and products for sensitive skin, where you want a silver metal with no nickel. A cheaper silver classic is nickel; a nickel-free alternative is stainless steel.

How it ages

Very stable; it keeps its tone and shine.

What it pairs with

Cool tones, grey and black leather.

  • Look

    Glossy silver

    Mirror-like or highly glossy silver surface with strong reflections. Fingerprints and minor scratches are more visible than on a matte surface.

  • Abrasion resistance

    Medium

    Suitable for normal everyday use. Traces of wear may gradually appear at exposed points with regular friction or contact with other metal parts.

  • Corrosion protection

    Outdoor exposure

    Protects the underlying material during typical outdoor exposure to rain, dew and occasional wetting. It may not be sufficient for permanently wet environments.

  • Damp conditions

    Outdoor use

    Suitable for typical outdoor exposure to rain, mud, moisture and sweat. Follow any care requirements of the base material and the complete product.

Aging Wear at contact points At points of regular friction (typically the buckle edge, snap contact point or strap) the finish gradually wears through and the base material shows beneath.
