Surface finish

  • Look

    Glossy silver

Mirror or highly glossy silver surface. Classic, clean appearance that looks elegant at first glance. Fingerprints and minor scratches are more visible than on a matte surface.

  • Abrasion resistance

    High

Resists daily use even with active dogs. The surface holds its original appearance for a long time, even when in contact with straps, snaps or other hard surfaces.

  • Corrosion protection

    Good

Reliably protects the underlying material during typical outdoor use — rain, dew, occasional wetting. May not be sufficient for permanently wet environments.

  • Nickel

    Yes, in interlayer

Nickel is not on the surface but in the interlayer beneath. As long as the top layer is intact, it will not reach the skin. Once the surface wears through, nickel may be released.

Damp conditions Outdoor use Handles typical outdoor conditions without issue — rain, mud, moisture, sweat. No need to dry or treat specially after every water contact.
Aging Gradually dulls Over time loses its original gloss and the tone changes slightly. This does not affect function, but the surface eventually does not look as fresh as at the start.
Process Galvanic Metal layer applied by electric current in a bath. Even, thin and adhesive coating — the most widespread method for surface finishing of metal parts.

How chrome plating is made

Classic electroplating: copper, nickel, and on top a thin layer of chrome. Nickel stays in the underlayer, chrome is on the surface.

What it gives the product

A mirror-bright silver shine and a hard, abrasion-resistant surface – the most widely used finish for glossy hardware.

When to choose it and when not to

The standard for everyday products – buckles, snap hooks, keepers. Worn edges can expose the nickel underlayer; for a confirmed nickel allergy, recommend stainless steel or matte black instead.

How it ages

The shine lasts for years; fingerprints show up on it more than on a matte finish.

What it pairs with

Everything – chrome is a colour-neutral. Its darker relative is black chrome.
