    Reliably protects the underlying material during typical outdoor use — rain, dew, occasional wetting. May not be sufficient for permanently wet environments.

    Handles typical outdoor conditions without issue — rain, mud, moisture, sweat. No need to dry or treat specially after every water contact.

  • Aging

    Gradually dulls

    Over time loses its original gloss and the tone changes slightly. This does not affect function, but the surface eventually does not look as fresh as at the start.

How an electroplated coating is made

A general term for electroplated finishes whose exact composition is set by the manufacturer of the given hardware piece. The layer is deposited by electric current in a bath.

What it gives the product

Corrosion protection for everyday use; the colour and tone vary by specific product.

When to choose it and when not to

Branded hardware where the manufacturer chooses the finish. We don't know the layer's composition down to the last element – for a nickel allergy, reach instead for a finish with a clear declaration: nickel-free or stainless steel.

How it ages

Like ordinary electroplating: a long service life, gradual dulling, wear at exposed edges.
