## Description and construction

The Fidlock metal magnetic fastener opens and closes with one hand, leaving the other free for the leash or the phone. The body is Zamak alloy with a gold-tone plated finish.

  The magnet guides, the mechanism holds: Both halves pull together on their own and a mechanical lock secures them, so the fastener will not come open by itself, even during sudden movement.
  Breaking load up to 150 kg: This is not a working load. Fidlock states that its metal fasteners are not suitable for safety-related applications, so on a leash or on the collar of a dog that pulls, use a snap hook or buckle made for the load.
  Gold-tone surface: On a handbag, a backpack or a collar the fastener stays visible, so it doubles as trim.
  Compatibility: Fits all our webbing up to 25 mm wide except supergrip, and all paracords.
  Where it does not belong: Not for permanently damp or marine use. Mounting is specific, so plan for it while designing.


## Limits and maintenance

* Tolerates occasional contact with rain, wet grass or damp hands. Regular soaking accelerates visible wear, so dry the surface after it becomes wet.
* Provides a temporary barrier against moisture. Works well in dry environments, but protection weakens over time with regular contact with water or sweat.
* Suitable for normal everyday use. Traces of wear may gradually appear at exposed points with regular friction or contact with other metal parts.
* At points of regular friction (typically the buckle edge, snap contact point or strap) the finish gradually wears through and the base material shows beneath.
