## Description and construction

A metal loop that holds firm – and will not slip, even when the webbing is tensioned to the maximum. This is exactly why manufacturers of collars, harnesses, and bags choose metal. Unlike plastic, a steel loop with a (gold plated) finish withstands impact loads and long-term use without deformation. ## Limits and maintenance

* Tolerates contact with water — rain, wet grass, damp hands. With regular soaking the finish ages faster and loses appearance. Better to dry after wetting.
* Provides a temporary barrier against moisture. Works well in dry environments, but protection weakens over time with regular contact with water or sweat.
* Thin decorative coating that gradually wears through with regular wear and friction. Wear shows fairly quickly at points where buckle or snap contacts the strap, ring or fur.
* At points of regular friction — typically the buckle edge, snap contact point or strap — the finish gradually wears through and the base material shows beneath.
