## Description and construction

Need to draw a line on a belt, collar, or bag exactly where you want it? The 20 mm Leather Wing Divider helps you keep a consistent spacing, even when working with tougher materials. The screw mechanism minimizes play, so your line won’t wander like it might with dividers that lack a solid lock.

    Compact size for detail work: The shorter legs really shine when marking inner curves or working on small leather goods. You’ll reach spots where longer arms on classic dividers just get in the way.
    Clear line without removing material: Unlike a groover, this divider doesn’t cut into the leather. The tip mostly compresses or lightly scores the surface, so the structure of your strap stays strong.
    Hardened steel points: Hardened metal resists dulling much better than regular steel. When marking vegetable-tanned leather, the tips stay sharp longer and need less frequent sharpening.
    Parallel edge guiding: Thanks to the stiff arms, the divider won’t drift sideways when you’re focused on your line, making it easier to draw precise stitch or decoration guides.

On soft or finished leathers, go easy – a sharp tip can dig in deeper than you’d like if you press too hard. For chrome-tanned leathers, we recommend testing your line on a scrap first, or using a slicker.


## Limits and maintenance

* Water causes corrosion, swelling, mould or other damage. Must be dried immediately after wetting, and even then permanent deterioration is a risk.
* Without surface treatment it will start to rust as soon as it comes into contact with moisture. Rust gradually compromises both function and appearance — surface protection is a necessity.
* To keep the material in good condition and looking good, it needs regular attention — treating, oiling or impregnating. Neglect significantly shortens its lifespan.
* Without a protective surface finish it deteriorates functionally and visually over time. Manifests as colour loss, surface roughening or the formation of rust.
