## Description and construction

The Kemovan skiving knife with a D2 tool steel blade is designed for precise thinning of edges, even on tough saddlery leathers. Unlike ordinary knives, D2 steel keeps its working sharpness even after repeated passes through thick collar leather. The single-bevel grind lets you run the blade flat along the surface, giving you maximum control for feathering and reducing the risk of accidental cuts.

Stability thanks to a rigid body and Cocobolo wood

The handle made from exotic Cocobolo wood shifts the knife’s balance for better control during use. With an overall length of 17 cm and a weight of 89 g, the tool is perfectly balanced, so it won’t skip in the cut, and thanks to the stiff blade (about 3 mm), it won’t flex like thin replaceable blades. That’s crucial when thinning around buckles or at hidden seams in leather goods, where every tenth of a millimeter counts.

33 mm wide blade makes it easier to maintain a consistent angle during longer skiving strokes. Leather is less likely to bunch up or stretch under the wide edge.
Zero-play construction: The solid connection between blade and handle eliminates vibrations that often cause a “toothy” cut surface with cheap replaceable-blade knives.
Efficient for details: You’ll appreciate this knife wherever it’s not worth setting up a machine skiver for a single webbing or a tricky shaped cutout.

Maintenance and limits of D2 steel

D2 steel excels in hardness, but needs regular care. To keep your cuts smooth, we recommend frequent stropping on leather with polishing compound (#3325-00 and #3324-02).
The high hardness also means the material is more brittle. This knife isn’t meant for cutting on surfaces with metal shavings or sand, which could cause microscopic chipping of the edge.
