## Description and construction

These brooches  are very popular amongst pet lovers. They come in the form of brooches, called 'Pet Pins'. It fastens with a secure clasp.


## Limits and maintenance

* Water causes corrosion, swelling, mould or other damage. Must be dried immediately after wetting, and even then permanent deterioration is a risk.
* Holds up fine in dry conditions, but starts to oxidise or change surface gradually with repeated moisture contact. Not suitable for permanently wet environments without protection.
* To keep the material in good condition and looking good, it needs regular attention — treating, oiling or impregnating. Neglect significantly shortens its lifespan.
* Without a protective surface finish it deteriorates functionally and visually over time. Manifests as colour loss, surface roughening or the formation of rust.
