Ever seen a halter that actually keeps its shape, doesn’t twist, and doesn’t have a spaghetti mess of webbing on the side? That’s exactly where the 2-sided halter webbing square comes in. It keeps your webbing in line and gives you a solid eye for attaching a ring or snap hook—all in one piece, no extra connectors needed.

Clean, no-crossing webbing management – webbing stays flat, the halter twists less, and the geometry stays just where you want it.
Simpler than the 3-sided version – if you don’t need a third direction, the 2-sided solution is more compact and looks “lighter” on the head.
One-piece attachment eye – the round eye acts as a stable anchor for a snap hook or ring, so you don’t need to add extra hardware.
Faster to make and repair – fewer parts means less sewing, fewer places for things to loosen up, and easier servicing without taking half the gear apart.

Perfect for the side parts of a halter or anywhere you need solid webbing guidance plus a reliable attachment point, but don’t want (or need) the three-way pull of a 3-sided square. Just keep in mind it’s still a metal part on ultra-delicate pony halters or minimalist designs, it can feel a bit more robust than a simple slider.

Special Note

Before sewing, make sure your webbing fits the inner dimensions of the square exactly you’ll find them listed as parameter “B” in the legend. That’s the only way your halter will hold as it should, and the webbing won’t get pinched in the corners.

TIP: Brass naturally oxidizes and darkens over time – it’s not a defect, just the metal reacting with air. You can restore its shine with #SITOL300G paste. To prevent darkening, apply the clear lacquer #637005/GLOSSY.

A halter square is a fundamental component in leathercraft when aiming for clean geometry. It fits perfectly on the side of a halter wherever you need firm webbing guidance combined with a reliable attachment point. Brass is ideal for this purpose – it is a solid cast piece with no welds and outstanding mechanical strength. Unlike common zinc alloys, brass never becomes brittle and does not crack in freezing temperatures, which is a key safety factor for equine equipment.

My workshop recommendation: Before stitching, always make sure the webbing width exactly matches the inner opening. If the webbing is wider, it will compress in the corners and the halter will lose its shape. For extra-fine models designed for ponies, also keep in mind that a cast square appears more robust than a sheet-metal loop – in return, however, it provides a level of safety you can rely on in critical situations.
